Edward Wolanin

Edward Wolanin started taking piano lessons at the age of 5 with Urszula Hop. At the age of 15 - being the youngest student in the history of the academy - he started studying at the Academy of Music in Warsaw with Jan Ekier, Bronisława Kawalla and Jerzy Marchwiński (class of chamber music). Laureate of many Polish and international music competitions, i.a. in the 9th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw he received the special prize for the best Polish pianist who didn't make it to the 3rd stage auditions. In 1985 he won also the 2nd prize at the 3rd International Chopin Piano Competition in Palma de Mallorca. In 1989 he won first prize in the 3rd European Chopin Competition in Darmstadt, receiving also special prizes for best interpretations of etudes, nocturnes, polonaises and mazurkas. In his repertoire he has pieces from Scarlatti to the contemporary music. He has given concerts with such orchestras as: Polish Radio Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Concerto Avenna and has worked with such conductors as Jerzy Maksymiuk, Tadeusz Strugała, Andotni Wit, Tadeusz Wojciechowski and Marek Pijarowski. He is also a very highly valued chamber musician cooperating with musicians like Jerzy Artysz, Tomasz Strahl, Krzysztof and Kuba Jakowiczowie and giving concerts in Paris, London, Vienna, Rotterdam, Berlin (Charlottenburg, Schauspielhaus), Prageu, Moskow, and also outside Europe in Japan, China, Irak, Mexico and USA.He was invited to many prestigious music festivals in Duszniki-Zdrój, Słupsk, Antonin, Nohant and many others. He recorded solo albums with Chopin's pieces, i.a. Preludes, Mazurkas, Allegro de concert, and also albums with the music of Józef Wieniawski, Karol Szymanowski.
