Mateusz Tomica

Mateusz Tomica is a laureate of numerous awards at national and international piano competitions. His latest achievements include being a finalist of the Polish National Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2020), participation in the final of the 20th Lodz International Chamber Music Competition Kiejstut Bacewicz (Łódź 2019), 2nd place at the Polish National Władysław Kędra Piano Competition (Łódź 2016), 1st place at the 6th Intercollegiate Chamber Competition for instrumental and vocal duets (Katowice 2019) and 1st place at the Grand Prize International Music Competition (London 2016).
Born in 1997 in Katowice. Started to play the piano at the age of 7 at POSM Stanisław Moniuszko, and then at POSM Karol Szymanowski in Katowice in the piano class of prof. Monika Sikorska-Wojtacha and dr Hubert Salwarowski. In the meantime, he achieved many prizes and awards at competitions, such as: 1st Prize in the International Competition for Young Performers "Art of the 21st Century". in Vienna (2011), 3rd Prize in the 4th Chopin Piano Tournament Halina and Ludwik Stefański in Krakow (2013), 2nd Prize in the 22nd International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Szafarnia (2014).
Currently, Mateusz Tomica is studying at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice under the supervision of professor dr hab. Magdalena Lisak assistant professor dr Hubert Salwarowski. In the 2017/2018 academic year, he studied at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna under the supervision of prof. Jan Jirack von Arnim. He regularly develops his skills by participating in masterclasses led by outstanding personalities of music world. These include: Dimitri Bashkirov, Andrzej Jasiński, Wojciech Świtała, Ewa Pobłocka, Nikolai Demidenko, Fabio Bidini and Janusz Olejniczak. He also collaborated with great artists of the Polish music scene, such as Marek Pijarowski, Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk, Jacek Kraszewski, Łukasz Dyczko and Anna Krzyżak.
In recent years, Mateusz Tomica has performed in many European countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain and Austria. As the winner of the Uttwiler Meisterkurse 2019 in Switzerland, he was selected to perform with the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz in June 2021. Among his previous concerts, we can distinguish recitals during the "Prelude" of the 75th Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój, the 30th International Festival of Young Winners of Music Competitions and at the birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin in Żelazowa Wola, as well as performances with the National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the Silesian Chamber Orchestra.
